I
am an artist, art therapist, teacher, and author of
the book and tarot deck: A Self Guided Tour to the State
of Happiness, published in 1999.
My
formal training includes a Master's Degree in Counseling
from Indiana University, with concentrations in philosophy,
psychology, women's studies, and sculpture; extensive
fine arts studies; and 15 years of mystical work with
Arica Institute.
My
art work includes pastel and oil portraiture, mixed
media collage, Chinese brush painting, and sculpture.
I studied the ancient goddess culture while doing sculpture
at IUSB and created a series of bronze goddess figures.
For the past 40 years, I have studied and meditated
about the symbolism of the tarot. I worked as an art
therapist, taught about art and the tarot, counseled,
lectured and exhibited my collages.
Symbolism became an art therapy technique for me that
has enriched my work as a psychotherapist. It has also
enriched my life by helping me in a major way with my
ADHD. Tarot symbolism gave me a point of focus that
captured my attention and helped me to stay on target.
It gave me inspiration for my spiritual health; for
making sense of my life; and helped me to graduate with
honors from Indiana University South Bend at the age
of 62.
In addition to my ongoing art work, I have been associated
with the Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship of Elkhart, Indiana since 1968, and was
employed as a youth counselor at Madison Center, South
Bend, Indiana. Now, in retirement, I continue to create
and teach collage art, tarot images, and goddesses.
I'm happily married and especially enjoy hanging out
with my grandkids and working in my gardens.
