The tarot is a deck of picture
cards that can stir up your imagination.
Can the tarot predict the future?
No. A piece of painted cardboard is not able to
see the future.
Is the tarot magic?
No. The “magic” that you seek is not
in the cards, but in the depths of your own psyche.
You are the only expert on your life and it is
your job to do the soul searching that will answer
your questions.
Are tarot readers psychic?
Not usually. They are often gifted with very keen
powers of observation and highly trained in their
intuitive skills. Some individuals have been documented
for their psychic ability to solve crimes. However,
asking for prophecies is not a good idea, because
it can rob you of the option to do your own work
to reach self understanding. There is also the
problem of the self-fulfilling prophecy.
What do the cards “mean”?
Whatever a card means to you is the correct meaning
at that moment. A card will look entirely different
to you from day to day according to your mood.
Tarot cards are full of ambiguous symbols, which
means that you are the one who determines the
significance.
What is the best way to use the tarot?
There are no “right answers” nor one
correct way to use the tarot. Tarot cards, in
all their myriad diversity of designs, are projective
tools. Each card is like a computer chip, full
of ideas that only you can decipher. Every one
of us reacts to a stimulus in a different way
according to our unique personal history. The
“best” way is whatever technique works
at the time.
What is the objective of a “reading”?
The objective is to find self-understanding, inner
peace and true happiness.
How can a “reader” be helpful?
Sometimes it helps to have a witness when you
are reading the cards, who will ask questions
that provoke you to look deeper into your ideas.
A witness can keep you honest and can be a listener
as you sort out your responses . The witness should
remain neutral and should ask questions - not
give answers.
Why
do some people fear the Tarot?
There is a thrilling sense of fear and mystery
about the cards, and I think that's part of their
charm. We are all intimidated somewhat by the
unexamined depths of our subconscious minds. At
the same time, though, don't we sometimes enjoy
being scared? Why do people go to horror movies?
Horror movies are projective icons that can titillate
and stir up our inner fears, just as a scary tarot
card does. They simply bring up haunting feelings
about our subconscious fears; we unknowingly project
them out onto the movie screen and then eat our
popcorn and go home.
How do you view the tarot?
I view the tarot as a depiction of the interdependent
web of all existence, with all human beings living
and relating upon it, each in his / her unique
way.
